Rejim gözünden Şam-Jobar'daki çatışmalar. 10.dk.'dan sonra vurulan bir rejim tankının yakınındaki mücahitlere saldırıyorlar. Tankın sağ tarafındaki binanın ön tarafında içerideki karaltılara dikkat edin.

  • Şam(Damascus)-Barzeh: Nusret Cephesine bağlı savaşçılar semtte rejim güçlerinin üslendiği bir okula saldırdı. 15 şebbiha öldürüldü, 2 şebbiha esir alındı. Possibly this is about the martyrdom attack by Jabhat al Nusra to National Guards headquarters in Wadi Barada.

Ceyşul İslam / Jaish al Islami




Şam ve çevresinde savaşan 50'ye yakın irili ufaklı grup birleşerek Ceyşul İslam grubunu oluşturduklarını ilan etti. Birleşmenin sembolik önemi var. Sahaya yansıyacak avantaj ve dezavantajları da var. Ama geçtiğimiz hafta 13 grubun ortak yayınladığı bildiri bence bundan çok daha büyük öneme sahip.  / Jaish al-Islami has been formed in the Rif Dimashq region by more than 50 groups decided to merge. I this this is is more symbolic than tangible.


Anladığım kadarıyla bahis konusu grupların 34 adedi halihazırda Liwa al Islam bünyesinde çatışıyor. Gruplardan 12 adedi yeni ve bunlardan 2 adedi dikkate değer askeri güce sahip. Diğerleri hem sayı hem de silah olarak mütevazi gruplar. Açıkçası bu oluşumun sahada çok büyük bir önemi yok. Sembolik bir hareket gibi gözüküyor. / As far as I understand 34 of these mentioned groups are already fighting under leadership of Liwa al Islam. 12 of them are new and only 2 of them are militarily considerable groups. Remaining is relatively small in arms and number of fighters.

  • Rejim geçtiğimiz Cuma günü Şam-Rankous'ta Halid b.Velid camisi yanında cemaat cuma namazından çıkarken bombalı araçla bir saldırı düzenledi. Rejimin bu tür saldırıları yaygın. Muhalif güçler bazen bu tip saldırılar için gönderilen ajanları yakalayabiliyor. Saldırı sonrası 40'tan fazla sivil feci şekilde hayatını kaybetti. Ölenler için düzenlenen cenazeye de rejim tarafından roket ve topçu bombardımanı ile saldırdı. Alttaki fotoğraf bu saldırıda ölen biri çocuk iki kişiye ait. /
    Around 1 p.m. on last friday, a huge explosion shook the town of Rankous in Damascus’s suburbs. I put this news before also. The explosion was caused by a car that detonated in front of Khaled Bin Waleed mosque as civilians were leaving the mosque after Friday prayers, leading to the martyrdom and injury of tens of civilians.
    Activists reported that at least 40 civilians, amongst them children, got martyred and up to 25 others got wounded [wounds ranging between medium and severe]. Much destruction was caused to the surrounding area.
    Ambulance cars and fire extinguishers rushed to the scene to try and help civilians.
    Whilst civilians in Rankous held the funeral procession of some of the martyrs, the regime’s forces renewed their rocket and mortar bombarding, targeting the gathering of the funeral, leading to the martyrdom and injury of more civilians, amongst them children.
    Up until now, activists were capable of documenting 18 martyrs, amongst them a child. Do note that the death toll is more than 40, but civilians have not been able to document the rest of the martyrs since most of them have been completely burnt or mutilated due to the impact of the explosion.

  • Şam(Damascus)-Qalamoun: Mücahitler bölgede başarılı operasyonlar yapıyor. Mücahitler son günlerde önemli noktaları ele geçirdi. Hava Kuvvetleri İstihbaratı Kontrol Noktası, tren istasyonu, Al Hajanah Kontrol noktası (muhtemelen 155.Alaya ait), Nasıriye'de bulunan 413.Yakıt Depoları. Muhalif güçler ayrıca 128.Tugayı ve Nasıriye Hava Üssünü de vuruyor. Bu çatışmalar esnasında en az 5 rejim tankı ele geçirildi. Rejim iöin önemli olan bir ikmal yolunun kontrolü ele geçirildi.     /  Over the course of the last few days, the Free Syrian Army (FSA) has captured several key areas in the mountainous Alqalamoon region which were previously under regime control. Intense battles have led to the complete liberation of the Air Force Intelligence Checkpoint, the train station, Alhajanah Checkpoint, the 155th Regiment, and the 413th Fuel Warehouse in Anasriyah. The FSA also struck the 128th Brigade and the Anasriyah military air base, significantly weakening regime forces and seizing ammunition and weapons. At least five tanks have been gained by the FSA during these battles, and a key military route which was the lifeline of regime forces is now under the FSA’s control. FSA battalions in the area say they are thankful to God and will continue in their fight to topple the Assad regime.

Kentin diğer bölgelerinde de yetersiz beslenmeye dayalı sıkıntılar ve çocuk ölümleri başladı. / These flatbreads baked with stale lentils are all that the residents of the Yarmouk refugee camp – men, women and children – now have to eat, with regime forces now cutting off all supplies of food (as well as medicine, fuel and all other essentials) to the camp for 75 days to date.
    As in other liberated areas across Damascus and the rest of Syria under regime siege and daily bombardment by Assad’s forces, malnutrition is increasingly the norm in the Yarmouk camp.

Many civilians got wounded, most of them women and children.

  • Humus(Homs)-al Waer: Bugün kalabalık nüfusa sahip bölgeye düşen bir karadan karaya füze muhacir sivillerin yaşadığı dört katlı bir binayı vurdu. Saldırı sonucu ölüler olmakla birlikte enkaz altındakiler sebebiyle rakam bilinmemekte. Roket bölgeyi vurduktan sonra Askeri Kolej ve Askeri Hastaneye yerleşik rejim keskin nişancıları yardıma koşan sivil ve sağlık ekiplerine ateş açtı. Ardından bölgenin elektriği de kesildi. Bölgede keskin nişancı tehdidi sebebiyle siviller zorlukla hareket edebiliyor. /   Today, the heavily populated district got hit by a surface-to-surface missile, leading to the complete destruction of a 4 story building housing displaced civilians. The rocket led to the fall of casualties as many civilians still are trapped underneath the rubble. After the rocket hit the area, the regime’s snipers in the military college and military hospital began opening gunfire at civilians and medics who were trying to rescue the civilians trapped underneath the collapsed building. Electricity was then cut off from the area.
    Up until now, one martyr fell and at least 3 women, an elderly man, and several children got wounded, injuries ranging between medium to severe.
    Civilians are immobile in the district due to the snipers targeting all the moves in the district.

  • İkincil kaynaklardan aktardığım habere göre Nusret Cephesi İslami Gruplar tarafından imzalanan bildiride bulunan imzalarının herhangi bir koalisyona girdikleri manasına gelmediğini bildirdi. / Jabhat al Nusra denies entering any coalition. The announcement was solely to reject the SNC and the foreign revolutionaries. Keep in mind in such news I generally get from secondary sources on internet.

Abdelaziz Salame, the highest political leader of the Tawhid Brigade in Aleppo, has issued a statement online where he claims to speak for 13 different rebel factions. You can see the video or read it in Arabic here. The statement is titled “communiqué number one”  and what it purports to do is to gut Western strategy on Syria and put an end to the exiled opposition.
The statements has four points, My summary:
  • All military and civilian forces should unify their ranks in an “Islamic framwork” which is based on “the rule of sharia and making it the sole source of legislation”.
  • The undersigned feel that they can only be represented by those who lived and sacrificed for the revolution.
  • Therefore, they say, they are not represented by the exile groups. They go on to specify that this applies to the National Coalition and the planned exile government of Ahmed Touma, stressing that these groups “do not represent them” and they “do not recognize them”.
  • In closing, the undersigned call on everyone to unite and avoid conflict, and so on, and so on.
The following groups are listed as signatories to the statement.

Who are these people?
The alleged signatories make up a major part of the northern rebel force, plus big chunks also of the Homs and Damascus rebel scene, as well as a bit of it elsewhere. Some of them are among the biggest armed groups in the country, and I’m thinking now mostly of numbers one through five. All together, they control at least a few tens of thousand fighters, and if you trust their own estimates (don’t) it must be way above 50,000 fighters.
Most of the major insurgent alliances are included. Liwa al-Tawhid, Liwa al-Islam and Suqour al-Sham are in both the Western- and Gulf-backed Supreme Military Council (SMC a.k.a. FSA) and the SILF, sort-of-moderate Islamists. Ahrar al-Sham and Haqq are in the SIF, very hardline Islamists. Jabhat al-Nosra, of course, is an al-Qaida faction. Noureddin al-Zengi are in the Asala wa-Tanmiya alliance (which is led by quietist salafis, more or less) as well as in the SMC. And so on. More groups may join, but already at this stage, it looks – on paper, at least – like the most powerful insurgent alliance in Syria.

What does this mean?
Is this a big deal? Yes, if the statement proves to accurately represent the groups mentioned and they do not immediately fall apart again, it is a very big deal. It represents the rebellion of a large part of the “mainstream FSA” against its purported political leadership, and openly aligns these factions with more hardline Islamist forces.
That means that all of these groups now formally state that they do not recognize the opposition leadership that has been molded and promoted by the USA, Turkey, France, Great Britain, other EU countries, Qatar, and – especially, as of late – Saudi Arabia.
That they also formally commit themselves to sharia as the “sole source of legislation” is not as a big a deal as it may seem. Most of these factions already were on record as saying that, and for most of the others, it’s more like a slight tweak of language. Bottom line, they were all Islamist anyway. And, of course, they can still mean different things when they talk about sharia.
Why now? According to a Tawhid Brigade spokesperson, it is because of the “conspiracies and compromises that are being forced on the Syrian people by way of the [National] Coalition”. So there.
Mohammed Alloush of the Islam Brigade (led by his relative, Mohammed Zahran Alloush), who is also a leading figure in the SILF alliance, was up late tweeting tonight. He had a laundry list of complaints against the National Coalition, including the fact that its members are all, he says, “appointed”, i.e. by foreign powers. He also opposed its planned negotiations with the regime. This may have been in reference to a (widely misinterpreted) recent statement by the Coalition president Ahmed Jerba. Alloush also referred to the recent deal between the National Coalition and the Kurdish National Council, and was upset that this will (he thinks) splinter Syria and change its name from the Syrian Arab Republic to the Syrian Republic.

Is this a one-off thing?
The fellow from the Tawhid Brigade informed me that more statements are in the making. According to him, this is not just an ad hoc formation set up to make a single point about the National Coalition. He hinted that it’s the beginning of a more structured group, but when I asked, he said it has no name yet. On the other hand, Abdulqader Saleh – Tawhid’s powerful military chief – referred to it on Twitter as al-Tahaluf al-Islami or the Islamic Alliance, but that may have been just descriptive, rather than a formal name.
Mohammed Alloush also wrote on Twitter, somewhat ambiguously, that the member groups have their own offices and political bureaus, and there’s a political program different from the National Coalition.  He, too, hinted that there’s more coming: “wait for the announcement of the new army”.

Who’s missing?
These are of course not all the rebels; far from it. Dozens or hundreds of small and local groups are missing from this alliance, just like they’ve been missing from every other alliance before it. Some really big groups are also not in there, like the Farouq Battalions or the Ahfad al-Rasoul Brigades, both of them quite closely aligned with the SMC and the National Coalition.
Most notably, the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham – Syria’s most querulous al-Qaida faction – is absent from the list. Given the recent surge in tension between the Islamic State and other factions, that seems significant. Does it mean the new coalition is in fact aimed at isolating the Islamic State, while also upping its own Islamist credentials? Striking a kind of third way between the Western-backed SMC and its al-Qaida rival? Maybe. The question then remains, what should we make of Jabhat al-Nosra being included, which is also an al-Qaida group.
In either case, the Northern Storm Brigade – which was routed by the Islamic State in its home town of Aazaz just recently – has quickly expressed support for the new coalition. In a statement posted online, they fell over themselves to explain how they’ve always been all about implementing sharia law. This is of course, how shall I put it, not true. The Northern Storm Brigade leaders are, or so the story goes, a bunch of ex-smugglers from Aazaz, with no particularly clear ideological agenda. They’ve allied with the West to the point of hosting John McCain for a photo op – and as we know, he waltzed out of that meeting firmly convinced that the rebels are all proponents of secular democracy.
No: the reason that the Northern Storm Brigade has suddenly gone all Islamist is that they desperately seek protection from Tawhid, after being beaten up by the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS). Perhaps they also figure that this alliance might be the only thing big and mean enough to actually crush the Islamic State. Size, money and momentum are the things to look for in Syrian insurgent politics – ideology comes fourth, if even that. That’s also why this statement seems so important.
On the other hand, the statement is in no way hostile to the ISIS. It might in fact suit them pretty well, since it weakens the hand of the Western-backed camp and adds weight to Islamist demands. When I asked a representative of Tawhid, he said the reason they’re not on the list of signatories is just because they’re not members. If they want to, and share the principles, they could join. The members already present will decide.

Bazıları ülkedeki en büyük silahlı gruplardan bazıları, kabaca şlk beş grup diyebiliriz. Bu onbinlerce savaşçı demek oluyor. Grupların kendi tahminlerine bakılırsa bu rakam 50.000'i bile geçebilir.

Liwa el Tewhid, Liwa el İslam ve Suqur el Sham Batı ve Körfez destekli Yüksek Askeri Konsey ve SILF'e mensup mutedil İslami gruplar. Ahrar as Sham ve Haqq Tugayları SIF bünyesindeler ve İslamcı yönü çok daha ağır basan gruplar. Nusret Cephesi bildiğini üzere el Kaide'ye biat etmiş bir grup. Bu ne anlama geliyor?

Eğer gruplar bu bildiri kapsamındaki ittifaklarına devam ederlerse gerçekten çok büyük bir olay. Şu demek oluyor ki ÖSO'nun askeri kanadının büyük kısmı politik liderliği tanımadığını ilan ediyor ve açıkça kendilerini İslami gruplarla yan yana konumlandırıyor.

Bu şu demek oluyor ki bu gruplar ABD, Türkiye, Fransa, İngiltere ve diğer AB ülkeleri, Qatar, ve özellikle en son Suudi Arabistan tarafından oluşturulan ve desteklenen muhalif liderliğini tanımıyor. Ben Türkiye ve Qatar'ın bu denklemin ksımen dışında olduğunu ve bu oluşumun sabote olmasını sessizce olumlu karşılayacaklarını tahmin ediyorum. Çünkü gelişen süreçte bu iki ülkenin çabaları da sabote edildi ve süreci etkilemelerinin önüne geçildi.

Neden şimdi?

Bence bu farklı ve uzun süredir süregelen birçok etkene bağlanabilir. Ama son noktayı koyan sebepler bence kimyasal saldırı sürecinde dünyanın tepkisi(zliği) ve ABD-İran-Rusya üçgeninde süren işbirliği görüntüsüdür.



Listede kimler yok?

Tabi ki bu gruplar muhaliflerin tamamını bünyesinde toplamıyor. Onlarca hatta yüzlerce irili ufaklı grup var. Bazı büyük gruplar da yok. Örneğin Faruk Tugayı ve Ahfad el Rasul Tugayları. Bu iki grup ta Yüksek Askeri Konsey ve UK (Ulusal Koalisyon) ile yakından bağlantılı gruplar.
